![]() Simultaneously, the tracks perfectly accommodate for the extra speed achieved from drift boosting, meaning that, if you know what you're doing, you can be in a constant cycle of drifting and boosting for an entire race. The drift physics are immaculate, and allow for a great deal of control, while also rewarding the player with multiple tiers of boost for drifting long enough. But once we bumped the speed up to 100cc we slowly began to realize that the people who made Garfield Kart seriously knew what they were doing. The first few races were play were rather uneventful, as we were playing on 50cc in order to get a handle on things. But that was just the tip of the iceberg. The depth of character customization threw me off: I hadn't expected this level of effort from what surely had to be a mediocre licensed spinoff game for some giant soulless franchise. Adding to this, there are two categories of unlockables that can be added to your character: hats, which increase the effectiveness of items, and spoilers, which increase some statistics while decreasing others. There are eight different karts and characters, each with their own individual sets of speed, acceleration and handling statistics. The first sign of quality was the variety of karts and characters to choose from. My friend bought it and we booted it up expecting a laughable ripoff of Mario Kart. 2 days ago I was at a friend's place, chilling with a few buddies, when we found out about the existence of Garfield Kart: Furious Racing. Take this, of course, with a huge grain of salt, because it’s from an ED admin.Yes, yes, I know what you're saying to yourself right now: he's trolling. Here’s a thread about it from a current admin. Unfortunately, I can’t link to any examples of this, however, because the site constantly going down. As someone who has been writing about the internet for about a decade, one of the my last resorts in remembering some weird old petty internet beef is heading over to ED and translating it from the deranged and racist chan-speak that it was probably written in. ED would be a great starting place for people trying to get a whole understanding of the current Chris Hansen/Onision stuff that recently came to head this month. A surprising amount of current YouTubers got their start as incredibly toxic forum trolls. Know Your Meme is obviously super helpful, but for some of the more obscure messageboard beefs of the early 00s, ED is more or less your only option. Unfortunately, there’s a massive chunk of internet culture that was only ever documented on ED. OK, there’s a good chance that some Garbage Day readers aren’t familiar with Encyclopedia Dramatica - or, if they are, they might not understand why I, a fairly well-adjusted adult person, would ever visit it. Here Are Two Good Tweets That Got Turned Into Even Better Songs If you’re interested in how Anne Rice copyright takedowns, puritanical users brigading LiveJournal users, and a near-unquenchable desire for smut created one of the core conflicts of modern fandom, I highly recommend it. For all the pleasure AO3 has given me over the years, that’s money well spent. ![]() It motivated me to dig a little deeper into my pocket to donate on the last drive. And because control-freakdom is at the heart of their “movement,” this drives them into frenzies. The Four Big Warnings + CNTW system is beautiful in its fairness and simplicity.Īntis can’t take control of it. ![]() It was designed to be a place where writers are safe from arbitrary content rule changes, random and unwarned deletions, and abuse-report abuse (which is common on ff.net). Here’s a good passage:Ĭertain people are screaming that AO3 is bad because it’s not a “safe space.” The real problem they have, though, is that AO3 was created to be a safe space - for writers. It’s really long and even has citations at the bottom for further reading. Either way, I came across this MASSIVE and supremely interesting discussion about the history of and AO3. I can’t tell if that’s because it’s becoming smaller or if it’s finally growing again. ![]() People are talking to each other more, using it for general-purpose blogging and discussion.
